Voice work
Kathryn believes we are all born with a beautiful voice.
Throughout your life the subtle contractions, both emotional and physical, that ultimately become your habits decrease your vocal strength, resonance, flexibility and beauty. Releasing the voice from these restrictions is an incredibly uplifting and empowering experience.
When Kathryn happened upon voice work at acting school, she felt instinctively that this was the subject for her. She was very inhibited in her ability to express herself vocally, and she knew that voicework was the key to opening up that channel.
Kathryn's voice is now one of her strengths, and she loves sharing the wisdom taught to her by so many inspirational teachers over the past 30 years.
Kathryn's voice work classes offer many tools – both technical and intuitive – to free your natural voice. The process is largely one of un-doing. In voice class, you'll learn to experience the connection between breath and sound; to activate the resonating chambers of the body, to open the throat, to release the jaw, to create suppleness in the soft palate, to feel the support of the breath and the body. Ultimately, with Kathryn's help, you'll learn to let the voice soar!
Kathryn has found voice work to be a very integrating experience – an exquisite discipline designed to harmonise body and sound. She'll never forget working with a wonderful singing teacher at WAAPA, who called out passionately “sing with your whole body!”
Kathryn's main influences as a voice teacher are the vibrant singing and voicework she learnt from John Dalby at WAAPA; the deeply exploratory work of Pan Theatre in Paris – in particular the work she experienced with Linda Wise (whose teachings are based on the work of Roy Hart), the inspirational work of Kristin Linklater and Chris James’ transformative and healing "Power of Sound" voicework. She is
currently studying classical Indian singing with Tahir Qawwal and Shivam Rath
